A Visit to the Mill Street Youth Center: Animal Assisted Therapy

Skipper at Mill Street

Robin Burleson, LPC presenting to teens at Mill Street

Skipper and I had the honor of visiting the Mill Street Youth Center in beautiful downtown New Braunfels to present about Animal Assisted Counseling. The goal of the presentation was psycho-educational and for teens to learn more about how animals are part of the healing process in mental health facilities, hospitals, schools, military bases, environmental disasters, and correctional facilities. I also shared ways they can volunteer with their pets, and the training they would need to do so!

Mill Street is an unbelievable resource in our community. Did you know ALL of their activities are completely FREE for teenagers? They offer so many amazing activities-wellness, cooking, art, music, robotics, esports, sports and exercise…the list goes on. The New Braunfels Youth Collaborative has done an amazing job creating a welcoming environment with engaging activities for the teens of New Braunfels and I look forward to volunteering with them more in the future!
