Coping with Anxiety During Pregnancy: Tips for Expecting Parents
Pregnancy can bring excitement and joy—but it can also trigger anxiety. Anxiety can develop before, during or after pregnancy. Whether it’s fear of childbirth, worries about your baby’s health, or general uncertainty, expecting parents often need support. Anxiety creeps in when elements of our life are out of our control and pregnancy pushes the limits of control in so many ways!
Tips to manage pregnancy anxiety:
Practice mindfulness or breathing exercises
Talk openly with your partner or support system
Set realistic expectations for yourself
Seek therapy to explore your feelings safely
Talk to parent peers that you trust to gain insight and set realistic expectations for the first few weeks and months of pregnancy and/or postpartum
Nutrition-feed your body with whole foods and stay well hydrated
Journal about your experiences and thoughts
