Postpartum Psychosis in the News

If you have read or watched any news in the last few weeks, you have seen a major case covering the mental health diagnosis Postpartum Psychosis. Postpartum Psychosis is a very real and NOT rare mental health condition that can occur in the first few weeks after birth, later in the postpartum period, and after stopping breastfeeding. I have seen so many people online, whether in the comment section or to a large social media audience, with strong opinions on this case and about postpartum mental health. The observation I have made is, we as a society are grossly uneducated about perinatal mental health. I would love to see more people Seek First to Understand, then be Understood, as well as education themselves about perinatal mental health. I want to see woman receive better healthcare and I want to prevent a tragedy like this from ever happening again. This takes everyone learning how to identify basic signs and symptoms of mental health issues. I am obviously passionate about the perinatal population, as it is one of my specialties in my practice, but you don’t have to be passionate to learn more and be prepared to help those around you. Postpartum Support International is offering a free webinar that anyone and everyone can access and watch to learn more about Postpartum Psychosis. Please consider watching it and sharing it with someone else too! You can find the webinar here: https://postpartum.net/training/slaying-monstrous-misconceptions/
